The CIA Estate Sale

This weekend we found a fabulous estate sale filled with worldly cultural items from Finland, India, Japan, London, the United States and other fabulous places. I went on Saturday and was in awe with the amount of assorted items up for sale. The family that was running the estate sale told me that this was from an aunt who had passed away. She was a single woman who used to work for the CIA. Supposedly she was an administrator and used to travel the globe to stay at any given place for months at a time which gave her the opportunity to explore the culture, the people and art. They were selling the house as well as all the contents. There wasn't much in the way of vintage clothing except for a few furs and purses. But there was a beavy of kitchenware, artwork, jewelry, linens, cultural items, furniture and books.

I was intrigued. First off working for the CIA, the family never had known much about where she was at any given time or what her assignments were. Top secret stuff. I did go back on Sunday and picked up a few more things as it was make-an-offer day. There was so much still there when I left.

A preview of just a few of the assorted goodies I came home with:

Vintage Arabia ~ Lappalainen Boy & Girl ~ Salt & Pepper shaker set by Esteri Tomula

Vintage Arabia Wall Plaque tiles by Gunvor Olin-Grönqvist.

Two assorted wall art metal mobiles. These are really fun, and measure 3-4ft in height.

Thee was a LOT of jewelry. These are only a few of the many I snagged. I ended up coming home with many Indian and Mexican silver pieces and a few Pewter pieces from Norway. Also picked up some 50's beaded necklaces, some pins and earrings.

And Lots of linens. Aren't these bird placemats cute?

I have a hard time passing up vintage fabric. I got about 5 large pieces of this textile.

And then came across this wonderful oilcloth by Marimekko. The selvage reads Maija Isola Lokki Marimekko Suomi Finland 1961.

Marimekko linen napkins.

And assorted Danish & Marimekko napkins.

All in all a very fun weekend sale. Some of these I've listed already (click pics), the others will be going up this week.

I am soooooo jealous, and I can't believe there was still stuff left at the end of the sale! You got some really great things, and I think you need to keep those mobiles and hang them in your front entryway.
