Esther Williams in Bathing Beauty. This is the original trailer for the film. Made in 1944 this technicolor film from MGM was directed by George Sidney and produced by Jack Cummings. I really need to go find and rent this movie. But Red Skelton?!? That made me laugh.
Synchronized swimming, lavish productions, gorgeous costumes, fabulous direction, water, fire, what's not to love? This was the first swimming movie for Esther. To film the elaborate synchronized swimming scenes, a special pool was built with all sorts of cranes and lifts to capture the action on film. It became one of the most popular films of that year.
Irene Sharaff did the swimming costumes for this production. Second only to Edith Head in winning "Oscars" for costume design. Ms. Head received 8 and Ms. Sharaff 5. Look at all those beauties. Wow, just wow.

I'm always in awe of productions as large and lavish as this. They just don't make them like they used to!
