What's Old is New Again

What is old is new again. One of the trends that I have been spotting this season is lace headgear.

This piece (above) is a wedding cloche from 1932 via the Met Museum. Isn't it gorgeous? And it looks antique. Look at the quality of that lace. And I'd bet those are wax flowers and beads, but I haven't seen it in person so it's hard to tell.

Now look, here's an example of a modern piece from Ralph Lauren. Rhinestones take the place of wax and or beads but it's a similar concept., it's more of a scull cap than a cloche but it's gorgeous nonetheless.

This one is by Alexander McQueen. I could do without the sunglasses, but hey, that's me.

And here's a simpler, modified version done as a  headband. Not so much lace as texture, but the bead work stand out to me. I'd wear any of these, how about you?

Wearing Gucci Well

Charlize Theron can make almost anything look good. I really really really like the look of this Gucci swimsuit on Charlize. The low cut open front, the cut out sides, too bad we can't see the back. She pairs it with a jacket by Christian Dior and shoes by Tom Ford. ♥

Keep Trim, Keep Fit, Swim!

Keep Trim, Keep Fit, Swim! It's the headline for a Jantzen ad from 1931. I love the interplay of this ad with the model getting ready to take a back flip, the sculptor carving out a perfect pose, and the 'famous' Jantzen red diving girl. Keep in mind, this suit was made of wool, and yes, it was made for swimming!

Effortless Beauty of Sophia Loren

I just love this photo. Such effortless beauty and grace. She could look good doing just about anything.

A Celebration of Brigitte Bardot

Today feels like a Brigitte Bardot Day. She's got a birthday coming up on September 28th, when she will be 78. Bardot retired from acting before her 39th birthday and spends most of her time at her secluded property in St. Tropez called La Madrague. What a beauty!

And finally an artwork by Andy Warhol of Bardot, based on a 1959 photograph from Avedon, sold at auction for 4.7 million at Sotheby's in London in May of 2012.

Wool, Cashmere & Silk High Waisted Shorts & Crop Top

Isn't this just the cutest thing? You all know how I love sleeved swimwear, and this knit high waisted shorts and midriff top by Marc Jacobs is no exception. It's more of a shorts outfit but styled around the pool it sure looks like it could pass for a swimsuit. The open midriff, the high waist, the knit stripes, swoon! But it's made from Cashmere, wool and silk so I'd be staying out of the water. Midriff top $635. and shorts $350. Marc Jacobs, NYC.

Chanel Cruise Antibes 2011 Swimsuit

We're back after our summer hiatus and it's time to look at some designer swimwear.

Interesting to see this Chanel belted swimsuit on two different personalities with different styling. The swimsuit debuted in 2011.

Beyonce in Chanel Belted Swimsuit $2,665. November 2011, Ralph Lauren jacket. Which one do you prefer?
